The top 30 qualifier contestants are invited to the National Training Camp in January 2027. The current schedule has three days of in-person training followed by a two-day team-selection competition. Each selection round lasts five hours.
The camp does not simply re-run the qualifier. It selects for IAIO, which means it has to test the things the 90-minute qualifier cannot:
Twelve medals are awarded at camp - four gold, four silver, four bronze - and the top four contestants are selected to represent Canada at IAIO 2027 in Vietnam.
The gap is roughly six weeks. The highest-return use of it is the classical AI material - search, logical reasoning, constraint satisfaction - because it is hand-workable, it is a third of the syllabus, and it is where the gap between prepared and unprepared candidates is widest.
After that, practise writing full theoretical answers under time, and practise building a model offline in a plain environment. Both are IAIO skills that the qualifier never tested.
